Monrovia – In a crucial step toward advancing youth empowerment, Majority Bloc Speaker Koon will attend the Future Leaders Town Hall hosted by Libpedia, with support from the Youth Legislative Caucus. The event, scheduled for Friday, March 28, aims to bring together key stakeholders in the youth sector to engage in a meaningful discussion on the Speaker’s vision for youth development in Liberia.

The Future Leaders Town Hall serves as a platform for young people to engage directly with policymakers, ensuring their voices are heard in legislative decision-making. The Youth Legislative Caucus, which consists of young lawmakers dedicated to championing youth-centered policies, has been instrumental in advocating for platforms like this to bridge the gap between young people and the government.
“This event is a reflection of our commitment to mainstreaming youth voices in legislative affairs,” said Duku, Head of Secretariat of the Youth Legislative Caucus. “We cannot talk about national development without prioritizing youth engagement. The Speaker’s participation demonstrates a willingness to listen and act on issues affecting young people across Liberia.”
According to Duku, the town hall will provide young leaders, student organizations, and youth activists with a rare opportunity to directly question the Speaker about his plans for youth empowerment, job creation, and capacity-building initiatives. He noted that many young people feel disconnected from the legislative process, and this event seeks to change that by fostering direct dialogue and accountability.
Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports, Representative Steve Tequah, emphasized that the Speaker’s address will cover a broad range of critical youth-related issues, including employment, education, entrepreneurship, and sports development.
“The Speaker is fully aware of the challenges young Liberians face—limited job opportunities, access to quality education, and underfunded youth programs,” Rep. Tequah stated. “At this town hall, he will outline his youth development agenda and discuss legislative efforts to create more opportunities for young people.”
Tequah further stressed the importance of youth participation in governance, noting that sustainable national development is only possible when young people are given a seat at the decision-making table. “This is not just about policy discussions; it’s about ensuring that young Liberians see tangible action resulting from these conversations,” he added.
The Future Leaders Town Hall, organized by Libpedia, aligns with broader efforts to position youth at the center of national conversations. Over the years, young people in Liberia have increasingly pushed for greater representation in governance, calling for policies that reflect their realities.
With Liberia’s youth population making up the majority of the country, discussions like this are central to shaping policies that will determine their future. The event is expected to attract youth leaders, students, civil society groups, and policymakers, all eager to engage with Speaker Koon on his plans to improve the lives of young people.
