Monrovia – For the most part of Thursday, February 20, 2020, cars could not use the intersection of Broad and Randall Street, downtown Monrovia as it was occupied by military and para-military chaplains of Liberia.
They were rendering gospel songs and offering prayers for the nation. All of these were aimed at giving awareness about the deadly coronavirus.
The virus has taken more than 1,000 lives in China and it is rapidly spreading in Asia and other parts of the globe.
Unlike in the case of the Ebola virus outbreak, the government is implementing robust measures at every entry point of the country to avert any suspected case of the coronavirus.
It was an eye-catching event, as many people do not often see the military and the para-military to be dressed in their full uniform and offer praise and worship songs openly in the public.
The Head of the Military and Para-military Rev. Fayah Fallambu of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) called on Liberians to continue to pray for their country.
“The uniform has made us different from you but today we have come to say let’s be together. Take the words of God and read it daily. Even if it is in your phone, try to carry the words of God everywhere you go,” Rev. Fallambu said.
Liberia was built on Christine principle but it better to build on
Corporal Henrique Smith of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) was seen officiating the event.
He said, “By the grace of God, Coronavirus will not enter this country. Even if it comes into the country through the fish that can come in the country; we will eat the fish and it will not catch us.”
Cpl. Smith told the audience that despite their security uniforms they are all talented people who are making it their responsibility to protect lives and properties.
“Anything that Bucky Raw, Christoph, Jaredo and other Liberian musicians can do, we can do the same,” he said.
“Today, we are not carrying guns; we are not arresting taxi drivers; we are not arresting criminals, we are here to praise the Lord.”
He called churches to come together and speak truth to power.
“The church is on the shoulder of the government. The government supposed to listen to the church but the church is listening to the government,” CPL. Smith said.
According to him, their awareness program is not being sponsored by the government. He, however, called on the public to support their organization as they intend to carry on the awareness of the Coronavirus to the entire 15 Counties in the country.
