Capitol Hill, Monrovia – Judge Ceaineh D. Clinton-Johnson has been confirmed by the Liberian Senate as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia.
Associate Justice Johnson will now replace the late Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe, following her recent nomination by the Chief Executive, President Joseph Nyuma Bockai.
According to a Senate Press Release, the confirmation of Associate Justice Johnson, who obtained a unanimous vote of 22 senators, became the first nominee to be confirmed at two-third vote consistent with the newly amended rule.
The Liberian Senate recently amended one of its rules to provide for the confirmation of live-time presidential nominees at two-third of the Senate membership, meaning 20 votes.
The Senate took the decision Friday, following what it calls a “devote” on the part of Senator Prince Moye to have written the Liberian Senate on the merit of his motion to reconsider the vote taken two weeks ago by the Liberian Senate on the two thirds to confirm tenured presidential nominees.
The Bong County lawmaker recently filed a motion to reconsider the vote taken by the Liberian Senate for the confirmation of tenured presidential nominees at two thirds of the membership of the Liberian Senate.
Instead, the Bong County Senator, who also chairs the Senate Ways, Means and Finance Committee, called on the Liberian Senate to reconsider the two-third vote and maintain the Simple Majority vote to confirm tenured presidential nominees.
