Representing the Liberian Legislature are Honorable Anthony F. Williams, Chairman of the House Committee on Banking, Finance, and Currency, and Honorable Emmanuel Dahn, Chairman of the Committee on Broadcasting and Information. Both lawmakers are actively engaged in the sessions, contributing legislative perspectives and supporting discussions aimed at advancing Africa’s shared climate agenda.
They are joined by Jeddi Armah, Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a team of climate negotiators from the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia. The Liberian delegation is working to ensure that the country’s climate priorities are fully reflected in Africa’s collective strategy for adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development.
The AGN meeting serves as a critical platform for African negotiators to prepare for upcoming global climate summits, including the next United Nations Climate Change Conference. Liberia’s active participation underscores its commitment to international climate diplomacy and its intention to align national legislation with evolving global climate frameworks.
According to members of the delegation, the Liberian lawmakers are focusing on key themes such as securing climate finance for national projects, promoting access to renewable energy, and safeguarding vulnerable communities that are increasingly affected by climate-related impacts.
The inclusion of lawmakers in the negotiation process is seen as a step toward integrating international climate obligations into Liberia’s legal and policy systems. This includes support for legislation that addresses environmental sustainability, national budget priorities, and long-term climate resilience.
A member of the delegation noted that the presence of Representatives Williams and Dahn enhances Liberia’s voice on the continent and helps strengthen domestic institutions responsible for climate governance.
The AGN meeting will continue through the week, with technical working groups discussing loss and damage, carbon markets, climate financing mechanisms, and Africa’s transition to clean energy.
