Liberia: Woman 21 ‘Kills’ Boyfriend in Demand for Money Independence Day Celebration
Monrovia – The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice on Wednesday, August 8 arraigned Marthaline Kolllie for allegedly killing her boyfriend James Tweh, whose age is undisclosed.
When Kollie appeared before the court, she was detained at the Monrovia Central Prison pending prosecution after the police had charged her with murder.
“In view of the foregoing facts and circumstances, coupled with the evidence adduced (victim body) as well as witnesses testimonies, this investigation resolved to charge the Defendant Marthaline Kollie with the commission of the crime of murder,” the police charge states.
Police charge sheet, in possession of this paper, indicates that the incident occurred in the Bardnersville’s Bend & Stop area on July 26, 2019 – Liberia’s 172nd independence day.
Kollie, according to the police investigation, on July 26 had gone to her boyfriend workplace to request money to purchase food to cook for the holiday.
Her boyfriend told her that he had no money but in her presence, he bought a pair of trousers and boxer. This angered her and she seized the items and took them home.
While she was at home, the deceased went there and gave her L$700 and then requested for his items but after giving the items back to him she requested for the money she used to purchase the black plastic bag in which she placed his items.
When the deceased was trying to give the defendant the money, a huge sum of money dropped off his pocket and she ordered him to check the money before her.
According to the police, fighting then ensued between the pair and the deceased allegedly pulled the defendant’s hair, hit her in the face and fled the scene.
The police report continued that after she came out of the room and realized that the deceased had escaped, she took a “big kitchen knife” and headed to his workplace.
Kollie arrived at the deceased workplace and stabbed him on his right side below his abdomen.
The deceased was then was taken to a nearby clinic but nurses on duty advised that he be taken to the Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town on the Bushrod Island where he died upon arrival.
