Monrovia – Following recent publication by the Liberia News Agency on the appalling living condition of an elderly woman, Liberia’s Vice President Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor has made an immediate intervention.
Monday, June 28, 2021, the Liberian Vice President officially turned over a bedroom apartment along with several items including cash, food, and non-food items.
Speaking at the brief turning over ceremony Monday, VP Howard-Taylor said she was moved after viewing the podcast of the 89-year-old woman who narrated her poor living condition while appealing for more assistance to the woman from prominent individuals in society.
Speaking further, the Liberian Vice President thanked the management of LINA with specific reference to its Director-General Kwame Weeks for taking their microphones to the most vulnerable in society.
She emphasized that she was glad to identify with Ma Yatta Kerkulah while at the same time encouraging other Liberians with the capacity to help to extend helping hands to the most vulnerable, adding that government can’t do all.
Before the construction of the single apartment, Ma Yatta Kerkula was sheltering in a dilapidated structure in Kpelleh Town, adjacent to the FDA Community in Paynesville.
Beaming with smiles on her face, the elderly woman expressed her gratitude to the Vice President for the gesture, noting that the intervention has greatly alleviated some of her problems.
