The terminal, valued at USD $75,000, will enhance the union’s operations at the Lougatuo border and marks the fifth modern terminal being constructed across various parts of Liberia.
“Our mission and goal is to bring meaningful transformation to the transport sector across the country,” Joime stated. “The United Congress Drivers Transport Union of Liberia is committed to improving the transportation system, and we’re expanding our reach across Liberia, including into the southeastern counties such as Maryland.”
Joime also highlighted a driver empowerment initiative, which currently supports 15 vehicles operating on a “work-for-pay” basis. He revealed plans to purchase land for drivers to improve their livelihoods, stating, “Our drivers deserve to own homes and not just spend their lives on the road.”
Additionally, Joime called on the Liberian government to provide ambulances to transport unions across the country. He emphasized that this support would enable timely responses to accidents, as currently, there are often no vehicles available to transport those injured to medical facilities.
