The ceremony, held on March 22, 2025, at the Dominion Christian Fellowship Center in Gbarnga, honored Moye for his unwavering leadership and commitment to the county’s development.
Bishop Minikon E. Nyenpan, president of the organization, praised Senator Moye for his dedication to Bong County’s growth since his entry into politics. He emphasized that the title was a recognition of Moye’s efforts to bring progress to the region.
In his address, Bishop Nyenpan urged Moye to use his new influence to further unite the county and spearhead additional development initiatives. He also called on Moye to organize a county-wide reconciliatory conference to foster collaboration among all political figures in Bong County and promote peace.
Bishop Nyenpan noted that religious leaders in Liberia had long avoided involvement in politics, which he believes led to non-Christians dominating the political sphere. He urged the church to play a more active role in shaping the country’s political future.
Senator Moye expressed his gratitude for the honor and attributed the title of political “Godfather” to his overwhelming victory in the 2020 senatorial elections. He vowed to continue working toward unity in Bong County, although he acknowledged that some individuals might resist efforts toward reconciliation.
“If you do not believe, I am the political godfather of the county, it is important that you go under truck,” Moye stated, affirming his political leadership.
Moye, further emphasizing his enduring role, said, “I have held the title of ‘Bong County Political Godfather’ since 2020, bestowed upon me by the people of Bong. It’s not something that can be undone. If you want to reverse it, you’ll have to jump under trucks.”
The honor bestowed on Moye, a prominent member of the Unity Party, has also garnered praise from the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
In a Facebook post following the ceremony, Sayblee Weyea, CDC chairman in Bong County, extended his congratulations, stating, “While we come from different political backgrounds and ideologies, like Nimba did with the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson, Bong County too must consolidate! And while this doesn’t disenfranchise any citizen of Bong off their rights to disagree, I believe Bong is moving in the right direction!”
Wehyee added, “Configuration Senator Prince Kermue Moye Sr.”
Senator Moye’s political journey began in 2011 when he entered politics as a candidate for the position of Representative for Jorquelleh District.
Despite facing fierce competition from seven other candidates, including former Bong County Superintendent Esther Walker, Moye triumphed, securing an astounding 80 percent of the vote. His victory marked the start of a transformative journey for Bong County.
Moye’s political rise continued in 2016 when he was elected by the Unity Party’s National Executive Committee to represent the party, with the consent of then-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. His tenure as Representative from 2011 to 2017 saw over 20 development projects secured for his district, including a $500,000 World Bank-funded school project.
Moye was re-elected in 2017, reinforcing his position as a trusted political figure. His political influence expanded further when he became Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2018.
Despite being part of the opposition Unity Party during a government led by the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) at the time, Moye earned respect across party lines.
However, it was during the 2020 senatorial race that Moye’s political influence reached new heights. Despite facing strong opposition from the Weah administration and local political figures, Moye’s grassroots support led to a historic victory.
He became the first candidate in Bong County’s history to win all seven of the county’s political districts, securing 50 percent of the vote and marking a new era for the county.
Even after his 2020 victory, Moye’s influence remained strong. In 2022, he played a pivotal role in securing Joseph Boakai as the Unity Party’s standard bearer, and in 2023, he served as the National Campaign Chair for Boakai’s presidential bid, further strengthening Bong County’s position on the national stage.
Moye’s leadership was instrumental in ensuring key government positions for natives of Bong County.
