Monrovia – The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, has reaffirmed the country’s strong bilateral ties with the People’s Republic of China, acknowledging China’s continued support in various sectors of national development.
Speaking recently at a seminar organized by the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce in China, Minister Dagoseh described the China-Africa partnership as a dynamic relationship grounded in mutual development goals.
She noted that Liberia continues to benefit from this partnership through infrastructure development, trade, capacity building, and technological exchange.
She cited projects such as the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Ministerial Complex and the University of Liberia’s Fendell Campus as examples of China’s tangible contributions to Liberia.
She also acknowledged the impact of Chinese-funded scholarships and training programs, which have helped build the capacity of young Liberians.
Minister Dagoseh said Liberia looks forward to strengthening these exchanges, particularly to develop future leaders, scientists, and engineers.
She expressed appreciation for China’s continued support in key areas including health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure. She emphasized that Liberia remains committed to deepening cooperation with China, especially in alignment with the government’s ARREST Agenda, which focuses on inclusive and sustainable development.
She highlighted China’s experience in poverty reduction, industrialization, and rural development as models that Liberia hopes to learn from —
particularly in areas such as special economic zones, rural electrification, and modern agriculture.
Minister Dagoseh further called for expanded collaboration beyond government entities, encouraging greater involvement of the private sector, academia, and civil society. She urged Chinese investors to consider Liberia not only for commercial opportunities but also as partners in sustainable development.
She identified renewable energy, agro-processing, manufacturing, and ICT as key sectors open for joint investment and innovation.
A press release from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry quotes Minister Dagoseh as saying that China’s development model offers valuable lessons that can help Liberia unlock its full economic potential.
