Marfee Musa was taken into police custody at the Liberia National Police Headquarters, after he had gone to turn himself in following the alleged murder and burial of the 16-year-old.
According to the Liberia National Police (LNP), suspect Musa allegedly committed the act on November 29, 2018 in the 72nd Community in Paynesville.
Speaking at a press conference in Monrovia, the spokesperson of the LNP, Moses Carter, said police preliminary investigation revealed that suspect Musa after allegedly murdering his son, immediately buried him without informing the LNP on the matter.
“On November 29, 2018, a resident of the 72nd community identified as Marfee G. Musa Sr. allegedly murdered his 16-year-old son identified as Marfee Musa Jr. at his residence in the same community.”
Carter continued: “Police preliminary investigation revealed that suspect Musa immediately buried his 16-year-old son without informing the police on the matter. Suspect Musa is in police custody undergoing investigation.”
But in an interview with FrontPageAfrica, suspect Musa denied the allegation of murdering his son.
“On November 29, 2018, I left him home with his brothers and went on the field (SKD). When I came back at mid night, I never saw him home. When he came I asked him where he was coming from, he said to me spirit them beat me (drugs group). So, I said since you don’t want to change, let me lock you up in the room and free you tomorrow morning, while crying that spirit beat him and when day broke I saw him dead,” he narrated.
Suspect Musa also admitted that he sometimes used to beat on his son when he misbehaved. He, however, refuted rumors that he escaped after murdering and burying his son.
“I never escaped; I explained to them. Maybe it is not the appropriate time. If you have a child and he goes off hand you sometimes have to discipline him. I buried him because he is my son. I have no expenses to make. I don’t have money to waste. I buried him before coming to the police,” Musa added.
At the same time, Moses Carter said an officer of the LNP is currently undergoing treatment at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital after he got wounded while responding to an armed robbery attack on Carey and Buchanan Streets during the early morning hours of December 1, 2018.
According to Carter, Officer Vah Morris sustained wound on his forehead when he attempted to arrest the perpetrators of the alleged armed robbery.
He also added that one of the robbers identified as Papa Massally, aged 27, also died from gunshot wound he sustained during the tussle when a gun was discharged.
Carter noted that some of the gangs, who escaped, made away with a police mobile radio and keys of a police marked vehicle to an unknown destination during the tussle.
“We assured the public that the LNP will do everything humanly possible to guarantee their safety. The LNP is warning the public to desist from attacking police officers while performing their statutory duty. We will not relent or hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone engaging in any illegal act,” Moses Carter stressed.
Touching on the latest issue of the day, Police spokesman Carter disclosed that the LNP made several arrests in connection to the violent protest in the Caldwell Community during the early morning hours of December 3, 2018. Protesters had set up road blocks and burned tires and logs in demand of electricity.
He described the violent protest as “infringement on the rights of others,” who are entitled to unhindered freedom of movement as guaranteed in Article 13 of the Liberian Constitution.
“The LNP warns all individuals in such habits to desist or risk facing the full weight of the law. The LNP considers these acts to be in gross violation of multiple offenses under section 17 of the Penal Law of Liberia entitled: “Offenses Against Public Order, Obstructing Highways and Other Public Passages,” he said.
