Monrovia, Liberia- On a momentous day, Lonestar Cell MTN marked the sixth anniversary of its prestigious “Yellow Scholar” program, a flagship initiative dedicated to nurturing and empowering the next generation of Liberian leaders.
The event, held on August 2, 2024, was a celebration of success, dedication, and the unveiling of new scholars, alongside the graduation of existing ones. Mrs. Johnett Horace, Head of HR at Lonestar Cell MTN, delivered a powerful address during the event, reflecting on the program’s growth since its inception in 2019. She emphasized the company’s unwavering commitment to the development of young talents, which she described as a key factor in Lonestar Cell MTN’s contribution to Liberia’s national development.
“The Lonestar Cell MTN Y’ello Scholar program was launched to support the education sector, encourage scholarliness among university students, and contribute to the Liberian community in which we work,” said Mrs. Horace.
“Since 2019, we have had the opportunity to meet many brilliant students from across Liberia, who have not only shaped the paradigm of academia but are also changing the narrative.”
The program, which targets students with a minimum GPA of 3.5, has seen over 51 participants since its launch. Of these, 30 have gone through the graduate trainee program, while 21 have participated in internships.
Mrs. Horace proudly shared that five of the graduates have been hired as permanent employees at Lonestar Cell MTN, and several others have gone on to further their studies abroad.
“When we started in 2019, people thought it was impossible to find students in Liberia with a GPA of 3.5. Today, we celebrate the achievements of these bright minds, who have exceeded expectations and demonstrated their capabilities,” Mrs. Horace noted.
The program offers a structured career development path for students, providing them with practical hands-on job experience, skill development, and opportunities to explore various career options.
Participants receive financial compensation and the potential for future employment with Lonestar Cell MTN.
One of the program’s beneficiaries, Kelvin Barclay, shared his experience with the audience. Sensitivity: Public “I was skeptical at first, thinking that this opportunity wasn’t for people like me. But after applying and being accepted, I can say that this program is truly merit-based. I’m now employed with Lonestar Cell MTN, and it’s been an incredible journey.”
Another beneficiary, Winnie Oguerilam, a senior studying Environmental Science at Stella Maris Polytechnic University, echoed Kelvin’s sentiments.
“I was reluctant to apply at first, but my friends encouraged me. Today, I stand here as proof that this program is legitimate and life-changing. If you’re qualified, you’ll be accepted.” The celebration also featured remarks from Mr. Kobina Bentsi-Enchill, Chief Financial Officer of Lonestar Cell MTN, who represented the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Rahul De. Mr. Bentsi-Enchill commended the scholars for their resilience, determination, and agility.
“This program has touched lives and helped many ambitious students find their career paths. To our graduating scholars, congratulations on reaching this significant milestone. Continue to strive for excellence and make a positive impact in your communities.”
As the event concluded, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for the future.

With the unveiling of new scholars and the graduation of existing ones, the program continues to pave the way for a brighter future for Liberia’s youth.
