Speaking at a recent event in West Point, Kemah emphasized that the IAA serves as the first line of defense against corruption, and prioritizing its role could lead to significant advancements in curbing public waste and abuse.
During the IAA’s Public Education & Awareness Outreach program, Kemah highlighted the importance of expanding the agency’s reach within the public sector to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. He expressed gratitude to President Joseph Boakai for his leadership and commitment to fighting corruption, particularly for the decision to assign an internal auditor to the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs. This move aims to oversee and provide guidance on the daily transactions of the President’s office.
Kemah noted that increasing support for the IAA would bolster its presence across various public sector entities, thereby mitigating the risks of fraud, waste, and misuse of resources. He pledged to continue raising public awareness nationwide, encouraging citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities, encapsulating the message: “When you see something, say something.”
In addition to his advocacy for accountability, Kemah was officially inducted into the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA) over the weekend. The induction ceremony, held during the institute’s Annual General Assembly, gathered numerous professional accountants. During the event, Kemah was appointed Chairman of the Committee tasked with reviewing the Act that established the accountancy body. This committee will collaborate with the Liberian Legislature to assess the Act and propose amendments that reflect current realities.
The IAA’s initiatives and Kemah’s leadership underscore a commitment to fostering a culture of accountability and transparency in Liberia, as the agency continues its efforts to educate the public on the importance of integrity in governance.
