Monrovia – In a country where access to libraries remains alarmingly low, KEEP Liberia is taking action to change the narrative. The nonprofit organization has launched a fundraising campaign, “From Floors to Futures,” to establish new reading rooms in underserved communities and provide much-needed seating for students.
According to the 2022 National School Census, only 1 in 15 public schools in Liberia have a library—just 170 out of 2,545 public schools. KEEP Liberia, which has spent the past decade creating 42 mini-libraries across 12 counties, is determined to expand its reach and improve literacy rates among Liberian children.
“Our vision is a Liberia where every school and district has a library, and every student becomes an avid, fluent reader,” KEEP Liberia stated in a release.
For 2025, the organization aims to build four new reading rooms in Grand Kru and River Gee counties while increasing seating capacity in two of the four identified schools. Additionally, KEEP Liberia provides low-cost digital literacy training to students, equipping them with essential skills for the modern world. In 2024 alone, 167 students benefited from the program.
