
Monrovia – Augustine S. M. Tamba, former president of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) and Executive Director of the Liberia Election Observation Group (LEOG), has died.

Tamba was pronounced dead on Wednesday, June 26, at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center in Monrovia after a prolonged illness. His body was later transferred to the hospital’s morgue.
A familiar figure in Liberia’s civil society and youth advocacy space, Tamba had been battling health complications for several months. Although the exact cause of death has not been made public, family sources confirmed he had been suffering from serious medical conditions for more than a year.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves through civil society organizations, youth groups, and the broader activist community, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
Tamba was widely respected for his contributions to democratic governance, civic engagement, and youth empowerment in Liberia. He rose to prominence as the president of FLY, where he championed youth participation in national decision-making and later continued his public service through election monitoring and civic education with LEOG.
Reacting to his death, friends and colleagues took to social media to express their grief and reflect on his legacy.
“I lost my aunty this morning and hearing about this death news is frustrating me,” wrote Euodia T. Gbatoe in a post reacting to Tamba’s passing.
Togar Saye Tarpeh commented, “Wow, life is certainly short, and tomorrow is not promised. Rest in peace brother.”
Veteran journalist Zoquay Beysolow Konneh wrote, “Prezo, brother, comrade and birth-month mate, you hit us hard mehn. Chey Augustine S. M. Tamba.”
