Monrovia — In celebration of Liberia’s 177th Independence Day, the Word of Life International (WLI), a faith-based humanitarian organization, has extended its support to senior citizens by providing them with food and non-food items.
Established in 1998, WLI has branches in the United States and has held Consultative Status with the United Nations since 2018. Accredited as an International NGO by the Liberian Government, the organization has been actively engaged in various programs in Liberia, funded by its U.S. office.
As part of its core mission, WLI launched an aging program in October 2022 to support the well-being of elderly individuals. In line with its humanitarian efforts, the organization recently distributed assorted food items and clothing to senior citizens from Pipeline and other communities in Paynesville, marking their seasonal gifts for the Independence Day celebration.
During the donation event, WLI National Overseer Mr. Anderson Vanwen emphasized that the gesture was WLI’s way of honoring and blessing the elderly during the Independence Day. He highlighted that such acts of kindness align with the organization’s values and scriptural teachings.
“There is no better way to celebrate Independence than by supporting those in need, particularly the elderly who are often limited by age and struggle to provide for themselves,” Vanwen stated. “This is about blessing our senior citizens and, in turn, seeking blessings for our organization. Our outreach extends beyond Pipeline to other communities as well.”
As a Christian humanitarian group, WLI’s core value is giving back to society. Vanwen noted that the organization’s mission is to assist those who are unable to fend for themselves due to age-related limitations.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to WLI for the generous support. Aloysius Tokpa, 62, President of the senior citizens, thanked the organization and prayed for continued blessings upon them. “Thank God for this organization. We are very grateful for this gesture and hope it continues. We will keep you in our prayers,” Tokpa said.
Clenweh Lewis, 60, also appreciated the organization’s efforts. “This is the second year we’ve received such support, and it really makes us feel valued. We are thankful to WLI for always being there for us.”
In brief remarks, WLI Acting Head of Program Madam Rebecca KG Ndorbor commended the General Overseer and the board for their support. “We thank our donors, General Overseer, and board members for recognizing the needs of our aging population. This is your July 26 package,” she said.
