Monrovia – Judge Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay of the Sixth judicial Civil Law Court has issued a Writ of contempt against heads of five government institutions for failure to send jurors for the August Term of Court.
The institutions are Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Liberia Land Authority and the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services.
Judge Gbeisay said that the institutions were duly notified to send jurors for the August Term of court but failed to do.
Judge Gbeisay made the disclosure at the opening of the August Term of Court of the Sixth Judicial Civil Law Court on Monday, September 16, 2019.
He added that the deliberate act of the institutions has caused serious embarrassment to the court.

He further explained that the failure of the institutions to adhere to the Jury Management service has left the court with limited number of jurors for the August Term of Court.
However, he has mandated the Solicitor General to assist the court by bringing the heads of the institutions under its jurisdiction to show cause why they show not be held in contempt.
“By Directives of His honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr., Assigned Circuit Judge, Civil Law Court, Montserrado County, you ( the Solicitor General of the Republic of Liberia), is hereby ordered to produce before this court on the September 18, 2019, at the hour of 2:30P.M the living bodies of the above named defendants before this court, to show cause, if any, why they should not be held in contempt of court for their failure to appeared before this court for jury services,” Excerpt of the Contempt charge.
Jurors are a body of individuals selected and sworn to listen to facts and evidence of court trial and they make a final decision, which is otherwise known as a verdict.
These individuals are selected randomly from multiple government institutions and they are secluded as they serve as jurors during a term of court.
