Monrovia – The institution where 13- year- old Princess [not her real name] was allegedly raped by her visually impaired instructor says at no time they were aware of the incident, as stated by the victim’s grandparents.
In a press statement signed by the CEO of Christian Association of the Blind (CAB), Beyan Kota, the school clarifies that Kwami Wreh has neither been an instructor of the institute nor has he ever served in the employ of the association’s programs.
The CAB authority says they had no previous knowledge regarding Kwami’s involvement in any sexual abuses of students on campus nor did any act of such concerning Kwami claimed the attention of the Association at any time whatsoever.
However, the school consented that “Little” Kwami Wreh enrolled in the school in 2004 and later had to drop out due to his failure to focus on the school lessons.
“Since then, Kwami Wreh has rarely attended CAB programs and activities,” the statement said.
The school confirmed that the victim was admitted at CAB in 2009 and has since been undergoing education and rehabilitation until recently she was allegedly raped by a 16-year old minor name Johnny Doe.
In contradiction to the statement by CAB, Princess in an exclusive interview with this paper said Fatu Kota, wife of Beyan, told her not to reveal the name of Kwame when she had gone for medical examination.
“When my father and Fatu took me to Duport Road to examine me, before entering the room, Fatu Kota threaten me that the thing that happened 2016, if I put any blind man name inside, I will never return to her school again.
“She said that if I go to her house, she will make me work like slave,” Princess narrates.
According to her, she is not the first person to be raped by Kwame but the school did not disclose any of the incidents.
“The guy that raped me first raped one girl in 2010 but nothing happened so he came back 2016 to teach.”
She said “I want for him to go to jail because he had intercourse with me and the school didn’t do anything. He raped me right in the kitchen and Aunty Fatu is aware.”
Princess narrated that when the first incident occurred, she visited Madam Kota office and told her but she promised to handle it urging that “I should not tell any of my parents.”
According to the victim, she quizzed Madam Kota the next morning but was told to give her (Kota) chance.
The victim said when she left the examination room, Madam Kota said, “I thought you told me one of your uncles raped you before getting pregnant, but I told her I have no idea of any of my uncles raping me.”
“She came closer to me and said if I make her institution to close down, I will suffer too, because it the only blind school. That’s how I left her and went to my father,” the victim narrates.
The victim. who was in the fourth-grade, was expected to have completed the school in two years to be transferred to an integrated institution. She wants to further her education but doesn’t want to go back to CAB, which is the only school of the blind in Monrovia.
“I want to end my school because two more years for me to graduate and I don’t want to go back to their school because they told the children to say they don’t know me so I don’t want to be bothered with them,” she narrates.
