Dr. Taikerweyah’s suspension followed President Boakai’s decision to suspend over 480 government officials who had not declared their assets, with a directive that they would not receive pay for the month of February.
However, Dr. Taikerweyah declared his assets after three days of engagement with the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), but despite this, he still received his salary.
Dr. Taikerweyah stated that while he received his salary, he intends to remit it back to the government’s account, explaining that he had not worked for it due to his suspension over non-compliance with the LACC’s mandate regarding asset declaration.
Although Dr. Taikerweyah’s decision to return the salary is seen as a positive gesture, it raises concerns regarding the enforcement of President Boakai’s directive to withhold pay for noncompliant officials, particularly when the suspension period has already passed.
