MONROVIA – A delegation of esteemed statesmen from West Africa, collectively known as the West African Elders Forum (WAEF), is scheduled to visit Liberia. This delegation comprises former statesmen, and they will be welcomed as guests by President George Weah, leaders of the main opposition parties, presidential candidates, the Electoral Management Body, the Police Chief, the National Security Chief, and the Diplomatic Corps. The visit is aimed at fostering dialogue and engagement in the lead-up to the 2023 Presidential Elections in Liberia.

During their time in Liberia, the delegation will also hold meetings with Civil Society organizations, women’s groups, and the Judiciary. The delegation is expected to arrive in Liberia on Tuesday, the 11th of July, 2023, and depart on Thursday, the 13th of July, 2023.
In a communication addressed to Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah Sr., and signed by the Secretary General of the West African Elders Forum, Ann Iyonu-Mpi, the organization expressed their hopes to meet with President George Weah at a time and date that is convenient for him.
“The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Liberia on Tuesday, the 11th of July, and depart on Thursday, the 13th of July. Through this medium, I kindly request a courtesy visit with His Excellency George Weah, at a time that aligns with his schedule within this timeframe. I am confident that you will facilitate the necessary courtesies and protocol on behalf of the Liberian Government during the delegation’s visit.”
This visit to Liberia is part of the organization’s pre-election engagement activities, which involve deploying a delegation led by the Chairman of the West African Elders Forum, H.E. Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, GCON, to undertake a Pre-Election Mediation Mission for the 2023 Presidential Elections in Liberia. The West African Elders Forum has a commendable track record of engaging in mediation missions in Senegal, Gambia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Their mission in Liberia is a testament to their commitment to promoting democracy, peace, security, and good governance in the West African sub-region.
