MONROVIA – The Movement for One Liberia (MOL) over the weekend celebrated its first anniversary under the MacDella Cooper, who has been championing the rights of women and women’s involvement in national politics.
Speaking at the ceremony, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander Cummings, recalled the efforts of the women of Liberia in raising up to US$10,000 to support female candidates involved in legal wrangles from the December 8, 2020 senatorial election. “I hope this is a small example of power of women and impact they can make in our politics,” he said.
Cummings called for the encouragement of women and the support for affirmative action to close the inequality gap that currently exists. “This is why I support not just the 30% quota but at least 50%,” he said.
He added, “As opposition leaders, we must also strive to build good relationships with other members of the larger opposition bloc. I strived to do so during my Chairmanship of the CPP and will continue to do so as Political leader of the ANC.
“There’s no better time for the opposition to unite than now. Our country is at a crossroads, and it is not about any one personal ambition but the future of our country and our children’s children.”
Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor congratulated Ms. Cooper for establishing the Movement and called on women to stand up for each other and celebrate each other.
