China’s Rural Reform (also called Agricultural Reform) was one of the multiple Chinese reforms implemented in China in 1978.
The reforms were initiated by Deng Xiaoping, the leader of the Communist Party of China at the time.
The reform in the agricultural sector was the first to be introduced; it resulted in China’s meeting its objective in the increase in agricultural production, absorption of farm labor by industries, reduction of poverty and the increase in quality and quantity of food consumption.
China’s reform anniversary this year was marked by a photo exhibition and a movie screening was held at the TM Mall in Mamba Point, Monrovia.
The event was highly attended by Chairman of Coalition for Democratic Change Mulbah Morlu and scores of partisans.
Also, one of the China latest movies, “The Wandering Earth” was screened at the cinema. Presently, the movie has generated US$$600 million on the Chinese market only.
Speaking at the event Saturday, June 29, Ambassador Fu was quick to mention his country’s success story, something he says Liberia should emulate.
“All of my Liberian friends are amazed about China’s rapid rising over the past decades and eager to know the reasons behind it,” the Chinese Ambassador said.
“There are factors such as the strong leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and Government, the policy of reform and open up to the outside world, the hard-working people, the sustaining peace and stability, and all the Chinese Political Parties, civil society organizations and the people united as one working together for the common goal of development.”
He said based on a proposal by CDC Chairman Morlu, the embassy prepared a photo exhibition on the story of China’s Open up and Reform.
“I hope you will get some useful enlightenment from it for Liberia’s prosperity and development,” Chinese Ambassador said.
The Chinese Ambassador also appreciated President George Weah for making road connectivity as one of his top priorities in the Pro-Poor Agenda.
“China would like to join hands with the other international partners to support Liberia’s efforts in building infrastructure projects which will bring concrete benefits to its people,” he said.
For his part, Morlu hailed the relationship between China and Liberia and expressed Liberia’s commitment under the CDC-led government in fostering development in agriculture, energy, trade, technology, health amongst others.
“These will help our country to be militarily strong, economically viable and so no,” Morlu said.
