Monrovia – Keeping Monrovia clean and green is a task the City Corporation cannot do alone especially with its meager resources.
As a way of buttressing Major Jefferson Koijee and giving the city a facelift the Friends of Jefferson Koijee over the weekend stormed Monrovia with a massive clean-up campaign in furtherance of Weah for Clean City exercise.
The Friends of Koijee exercise took the campaign to major streets corner in Monrovia, removing stockpile of garbage with earth moving equipment.
Onlookers were amaze to see young professionals cleaning the city instead of the regular MCC garbage collectors.
Community dwellers praised FOK for their initiative to clean the city urging them to continue with clean-up exercise.
On Front Street the friends of Koijee were seen clearing the stockpile of garbage thus relieving merchant and residents of the garbage.
Friends of Koijee Secretary General Henry Johnson said the clean-up will part of the organization monthly clean-up exercise.
“We are contributing to the work of the Monrovia City cooperation, what happen on Saturday is the beginning of our many exercises, we clean three locations, the old road intersection, the Front Street, an intersection at the Jallah Town, 12th street around the MCCSS intersection,” Johnson added.
Johnson said that Friends of Koijee rented a front hand loader and a truck to convey the dirt to the dumping site adding that residents were excited and they joined in the clean-up exercise.
Johnson said the clean-up exercise is one of the many projects highlighted adding that they’ve several projects to implement.
Johnson said Friends of Koijee is a charity organization adding that in December of last year they visited old folks home and donated some foods items. “We did an outreach in Margibi and donated some food items, we also completed a structure that has been there for years.”
Apart from the clean-up exercise the Friends of Koijee have been carrying out humanitarian gesture to orphanages and less fortunate communities.
While MCC is doing everything possible to make the city clean and green but it is obviously struggling to deal with waste like any city in the world.
Some resident leave the designated sites and dump dirt in the wrong places, and the MCC is working on collecting garbage from the city.
Pedestrians, residents and business owner praise the Friends of Koijee for such initiative adding this is a show of love for one country.
