GBARNGA — Friends of Liberia/Liberia Health Team has concluded circle five of its annual faculty development workshop at the Phebe-Esther Bacon College of Health Sciences(Campus-I) Phebe Hospital in Suakoko, Bong County.

Friends of Liberia/Liberia Health Team is a Liberian based health organization working with the Liberian Board of Nursing and Midwifery and the Liberian Nurses Association inorder to improve the quality of nursing services in the country.
The organization embarked on the annual event in 2020 as an augmentation to the Board of Nursing and Midwifery and the Liberian Nurses Association in training and enhancing the skills of teachers of accredited nursing schools and competencies of practicing nurses across the country.
Speaking to FPA at the close of the training, the lead person of the Organization, Edwin Beyan, said twenty three (23) participants drawn from about 23 accredited nursing institutions formed part of the workshop.
Mr Dr. Beyan noted that the aim of the faculty development workshop, which is held in January of every year, is to improve the quality of teaching at nursing institutions and competencies of practicing nurses/midwives across the Country.
Mr. Dr. Beyan stated that the health sector can only continue to thrive when doctors and nurses are served with the proper training and knowledge in their respective areas of specialty.
He particularly highlighted the importance of training and capacitating of those who teach incoming nurses and midwives, stating that the quality of nursing services in every nation also contributes to population growth.
The Friends of Liberia focal person admitted that the initiative, since its insertion in 2020, has made significant impact on the health sector as a whole over the past four years, as nursing school teachers continue to improve in the profession.
He encouraged beneficiaries of the 5th circle to expand and put into practice, every lesson they learned from the workshop as they return to their respective areas of assignment.
Some of the participants who granted FPA interview lauded the organization for the board step taken in the right direction.
They disclosed that the workshop taught them several new ideas which they promised to pounce on upon return.Some suggested that the workshop be held at least twice every year, considering how important and needful it has become over the years.
They noted that the initiative, when conducted twice a year, will touch more faculty members and practicing nurses across the country.
