Monrovia – A 27–year old man identified as Daniel Paykue, a resident of Caldwell Township in Montserrado County, has been arrested, detained and charged with murder, pending prosecution after allegedly beating his fiancée who later died at a local hospital.
The incident is reported to have taken place on March 29, 2016 following his return from Buchanan, Police charge sheet revealed.
The Police charge sheet also indicated that defendant Paykue, upon his return from Buchanan, arrived in the township and met his fiancée, identified as Evelyn Bah, in another apartment watching movie. He called her in their room, closed the door and decided to beat her, said the Police charge sheet.
The charge sheet indicated that after the victim escaped from the defendant, he chased her outside under the Pawpaw tree where he picked up a stick about three feet long which he allegedly used to assault the victim who went unconscious.
The victim, according to the Police, was taken from the fighting scene to the Tan-Tan Poly Clinic located in the same township but later transferred to the Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town where she died the next morning while undergoing further treatment.
But the Police also said that during investigation with the defendant, he narrated that upon his arrival from Buchanan he spoke to his fiancée who failed to respond and while joking with her, she responded by insulting his mother.
The defendant further narrated during investigation that while insulting his mother, her phone rang and he took the phone from her, ran outside the house under the tree.
According to him, the deceased came from the room and hit him on the chest and began to run. While running, he said, she hit the Pawpaw tree, felt down and became unconscious.
Quoting the defendant, the Police revealed that he further indicated that after his fiancée had dropped unconscious, he ran to get a vehicle or bike to take her to the hospital but when he returned, he was told that a neighbor had taken her to the Tan-Tan Poly Clinic and onward to the Redemption Hospital for further treatment where she died and he was informed the following morning of her death.
In its investigative findings, the LNP say that it was established that the victim and the defendant lived together for the last five years and that upon his arrival the victim was in the apartment of a neighbor.
“That when the victim arrived at their home the defendant asked that they sleep in another room which she refused and upon her refusal the defendant got annoyed and started beating her and took the stick and allegedly strike her on her head which left her unconscious.”
Police say that after the victim was admitted to the hospital, the defendant, without any regard for human dignity or remorse of conscience, went ahead and took all the victim’s wearing and other belongings and set it ablaze.
“Wherefore and in view of the foregoing circumstances coupled with the defendant’s admission as well as witnesses followed by evidence adduced and bruises observed on the victim’s body, resolved to charge the defendant with murder in violation of Chapter 14.1 of the New Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia” said the Police charge sheet.
