Monrovia – Representative Moses Acarous Gray has described his latest linked to a stolen vehicle as an unfounded, baseless and a calculated attempt to demolish his political standing and integrity.
“If the court clears the car and I want to buy it; it’s no crime in Liberia. You can buy a car from anywhere. This is worrisome as we approach the 2017 and I assure President Sirleaf that I will never surrender on criticizing her for misusing the resources of this country” – Rep. Acarous Moses Gray (CDC District 8, Montserrado County)
The lawmaker explained that contrary to allegations that he purchased a stolen vehicle, he has not paid a dime for the vehicle but admitted that his official plate was on the vehicle because he had expressed interest in purchasing the vehicle and had asked the car dealer to test drive the vehicle using his official plates.
They thought I was in the car with the hope of blackmailing me, believing that I had purchased a stolen vehicle.”
Rep. Gray claims that the charges were beefed up on him after his appearance on the 50=50 morning show on 107 FM Tuesday.
“I appeared on the radio and made a statement that the Big Boys 1 & 2 were the President and the Vice President. I have a utility plate; it is a common practice whenever we want to purchase a car, we use our official plates to test drive it to avoid embarrassment from the Police.
According to the CDC lawmaker, he has received court evidence showing that the vehicle is amongst four other vehicles that were investigated by the court and ruled in favour of the owners.
Court documents in the possession of FrontPageAfrica shows that on April 22, 2016 Judge Peter Gbeneweleh Assigned Circuit Judge mandated the sheriff of the court (Capt. Fofie V. Kamara), delivered the four vehicles to the Plaintiff’s possession based upon the mandate of the Supreme Court.
According to the documents, the vehicles include; 2013 model range Rover: VIN# salvn2bg7dh839138 colour black,2015 Dodge charger VIN#2c3cdxbg7fh835798 colour: grey, 2010 Hyundai sonata VIN#5npeb4ac0bh189058 colour: blue and 2014 Chrysler 200 VIN#1c3ccab7fn598321 colour: white
In addition to the court document, Judge Gbeneweleh on January 26, 2016 ruled and ordered that; “Sheriff of the court (Capt. Fofie V. Kamara), with immediate effect is hereby ordered to deliver the four vehicles to the plaintiff’s possession pending the hearing and determination of the matter and is hereby so ordered,” the documents read.
Flagged receipt also showed that the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) on September 25, 2015 cleared Mr. Lloyd Smith owner of the vehicles to clear the vehicles from the Free Port of Monrovia.
Representative Gray said it is rather unfortunate that when one criticizes the President, they try put crime on one’s head.
“I am not escaping; I will not know that this is stolen property and buy it. I was aware that the Police and the courts had earlier cleared the vehicle. I didn’t pay a dime for that car the Police spokesman lied that I purchased the vehicle.”
Added Rep. Gray: “If the court clears the car and I want to buy it; it’s no crime in Liberia. You can buy a car from anywhere.
This is worrisome as we approach the 2017 and I assure President Sirleaf that I will never surrender on criticizing her for misusing the resources of this country.”
