MONROVIA – Mr. James Rogers, Interim Chairman of the steering committee of the UP chapter in Canada and USA, has announced that, as mandated by the general membership of the Unity Party Diaspora chapter, the leadership of its former chairman Kerper Dwayen is being investigated.

According to Rogers, Dwayen’s leadership is being investigated because Mr. Dwayen officially claimed in his writing to the UP National Coordinating Committee of establishing an NGO which is in violation of (501c under the US law).

The NGO established by Chairman Dwayen is a nonprofit organization and not a political party/institution under which he runs the UP, USA, and Canada. This, we believe, is in total violation/different from the formation of the constitution of the Unity Party Liberia. In view of this, the majority of the UP USA/Canada has mandated an interim leadership, effective immediately.

The leadership, according to Mr. Rogers, is being chaired by him, who currently hosts the position as the regional Vice-chair East Coast and Canada, and other members of the leadership. The current leadership is under a mandate to generate much-needed funds to support the National leadership in Liberia.

Rogers also announced that there will be no convention of the party’s USA, Canada chapter six (6) months to a major election, and to do so is a violation of the constitution that governs them. This interim leadership will uphold the constitution by following the rule of law.

Those appointed include: Mr. James M. Rogers, Interim Chairman; Mr. Fumbah Sheriff, First Vice Chairman; Madam Kumbah S. Cole, member; Mr. Saywala Kennedy, member; and Mr. Harry Mason. Others include Mr. Augustine Saywala, Mr. William Kpadeyea, Mr. Thomas Ansumana, and Madam Bedu Hunter.

    Raising funds for poll watchers

In addition to the many mandates given to the interim leadership, Mr. Rogers announced that raising funds for the poll-watching project is a crucial element for the October 2023 election, which will determine the people’s votes.

He also criticized the ongoing biometric voter registration exercise, describing it as a big fraud that will never cover the entire country and is already not guaranteed to be free and fair, as stipulated within the constitution.

Rogers said: “The CDC-led government, in collaboration with the National Election Commission (NEC), is establishing an in-transparent IT infrastructure of fraud to allow them to steal the people’s votes come October 2023. We are also calling on the US government and other international partners to take note of all irregularities and violations of the election law that are already taking place in the building up to this very crucial election for the people of Liberia.”
