Monrovia – The political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Cummings has donated US$10,000 to the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA) for the renovation of the Rally Town Market Day Care School in Central Monrovia.
Report by Gerald C. [email protected]Ā
Presenting the check on behalf of the Cummings Africa Foundation (CAF) to the LMA President, Madam Alice Yeebahn at the organization headquarters on Thursday, October 26, Mr. Cummings noted that the gesture is in fulfillment of his promise to the school and the LMA during the campaign period.
He pledged his Foundationās commitment to the LMA and stressed that in order to drive the economy; there is a need to empower the business community.
Receiving the check, the LMA President, Alice Yeebahn thanked Mr. Cummings and his family for what she described as an unprecedented gesture; and on behalf of her organization promised that the money would be used for the right purpose.
āThis is the first time in the history of the Liberian Marketing Association for an LMA President will be announcing what is given.”
“This money will be used for the intended purpose. Whatsoever purpose this money was given for; you will come and see the result. We get more things for you to do.”
“We are part of the Coca Cola Company and Coca Cola has already started helping marketers around Monrovia and extending to other counties. And we know these things came through you.ā
āAnd you have come again and say no, even though I didnāt win the election, but it doesnāt matter. My people matter, my children and the market people matter.”
“Thank you so much. Thank you for the children. We are not going to hide your effort; we are bold people. You came and said something to us. You said you are talk and do; and you lived by your words,ā Madam Yeebahn enthused.
Mr. Cummings, through the Cummings Africa Foundation has given over US$1million in cash and materials to several institutions and deserving Liberians.
In May, the Foundation donated medical supplies and equipment to six referral hospitals including the Government Hospital in Buchannan, Grand Bassa, Rennie Hospital-Margibi, Curran Hospital in Zorzor Lofa County, C.B. Dunbar in Gbarnga, Bong, Fish Town Hospital in River Gee and the J.J. Dossen Hospital in Harper, Maryland County.
Throughout the campaign period, Mr. Cummings clarified that CAF is his familyās way of sharing their manifold blessings with Africa, especially Liberia; and his motive is devoid of politics.
āEven if I am elected President during these elections, the Cummings Africa Foundation will still be here and rendering basic services to my people,ā he told a gathering of reporters during a turnover ceremony of several medical supplies at the Rennie Hospital in Kakata, Margibi County in May, 2017.
His sentiments were echoed by a member of the Cummings clan who preferred anonymity.
āThe assumption that people had was that he was only doing it for the campaign. That he wouldnāt come back; especially now that the results are being announced. Today he wanted to come and make good on the promise.
Heās committed to the school; and now that he has given the money, heās going to be actively involved to develop the school.Ā
He is going to start looking at other markets to see how women can get support while they try to earn a living for their family. So we are going to start with the school here and the Foundation; especially Mrs. Cummings who is particularly hands on.ā
āThis is something that they are doing together. Mrs. Cummings will come back to do a program just for the women.:
Todayās was about keeping the commitment, sending the message that this is the man that loves the Liberian people; and it was not about becoming the next President.
It is about doing something for the lives of the children,ā she averred.
