The distribution event took place on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at SENOW Academy High School in New Matadi and targeted senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and widows to provide much-needed relief during the festive season.
The association, comprising former residents of New Matadi now residing in the USA, is led by Alex Teah, who coordinates its activities abroad, while Adam Togba oversees initiatives on the ground in Liberia.
“We wanted to share some joy and let the people back home know we are thinking of them,” said Alex Teah. “The holidays are a time for giving, and this is our way of giving back to our community.”
In Liberia, Adam Togba spearheaded the rice distribution and extended his gratitude to association members in the USA for their continued support. He also emphasized the importance of additional community initiatives, such as scholarships and other development programs. “This is a meaningful way to show love and support to those in need,” Togba stated.
This is not the first time the New Matadi Association – USA has supported residents of the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the association distributed rice, oil, and preventive materials to hundreds of residents, providing critical relief during a challenging period.
The association has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the lives of community members and anticipates expanding its humanitarian efforts in 2025.
Esther Dennis, a beneficiary, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I just want to thank God for our children in America. God has carried them, and they are thinking about us—the old people here in Liberia who need help. Let God bless them, and may He replenish the source from which they gave.”
Another beneficiary, Esther Green, also shared her appreciation: “I want to thank those who have done this for us. Thank you so much to our children in the States who thought about us.”
The New Matadi Association – USA continues to serve as a beacon of hope for the New Matadi community, ensuring that no one is left behind during the festive season.
