Margibi County- Over 300 underprivileged children in Joeblow Town, Margibi County over the weekend were given Christmas gifts by the International Children Alert Incorporated, a non-governmental institution.
The International Children’s Alert aim is to help sustain the lives of impoverished children of Liberia and other children in need around the world, through food, water, medicine and clothing.
Quienette Mbakellah is the Chief Executive Officer of the group. She said: “We want to bring the seasonal festival every year to those kids who don’t have the ability to experience Christmas to just show a little love to them.”
Madam Mbakellah started her initiative from Ghan with just over 50 children. She said: “My whole children’s business started from Ghana. There I grew up with my mom and I never had that father figure and so just used to feel love when I am always around kids because I saw myself in them.”
She came from Ghana to Liberia in 2007 and she continues to work with kids calling her organization “Kids Mentoring Group”.
She later changed the name to International Children Alert in 2014 after she traveled to America and there she made the organization’s first donation in Bomi County.
“Our goal is to go throughout the 15 counties. This is the nine counties. Last year we worked with 500 children, today as you can see, we are working with 350 children. The children are happy and the parents are also excited. Everyone wants for his or her child to get some gifts for themselves,” she said.
James M. Wells is the Assistant Town Chief of Joeblow Town. He told journalists that the presence of the International Children Alert Incorporated group giving gifts to children in his town is a good gesture especially during the festive season.
“I feel very happy. Since I have been here, this is the first time for anyone to come and put smiles on the faces of our children. Some people came and promised they would never fulfill their promises,” Mr. Wells said.
The Assistant Town Chief of Joeblow Town added: “But this organization came, made a promise and they are fulfilling their promises. Our mothers are very proud to see their children receiving gifts. The children are happily going home,” he said.
Mr. Wells also called on the International Children Alert Incorporated to help his town with some assistance to address issues in health and education in their town.
Ma Sarah Williams is one of the residents in Joeblow Town. She praised the humanitarian group for reaching out to her town and putting smiles on the faces of the children.
“We the mothers of Joeblow Town say thank you to the International Children Alert Incorporated. We don’t have anything to give to our children this season but the people have made our children happy,” Ma Sarah said.
