Monrovia – The Comenius School of Creative Leadership, in the United States has identified with 150 students from the Future Foundation International Academy (FFIA), located in Rehab Community, Paynesville, by giving them assorted food items and educational materials, amid the coronavirus outbreak. All the school in the country are presently shut because of the deadly pandemic.
According to one of the administrators of FFIA, Robert Bimba, the intervention is meant to encourage students’ commitment toward home learning, while awaiting improvement in the current health crisis.
He stated that Comenius is one of the best highly rated Christian schools that are working to assist less privileged kids in accessing quality education.
According to him, the program is in partnership with FFIA and the Abide in the Vine Fellowship Liberia and the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP).
Bimba also stated that they have been thinking of ways to keep their students engaged and busy since government closed all schools.
“The staffs of Comenius have held several prayer meetings with FFIA, including an international zoom educators exchange meeting with others from around the world to share their ongoing online schools with their students and how it was doing.
“Liberia got inspired to start something, considering our context to initiate the Home Reading on Learning and Leading Program (H-ROLL),” he added.
He also said that since March of 2020, his institution has replicated the idea of the H-ROLL program serving students weekly by having parents pick and up lessons, assignments, notes, reading books and tests during the week.
“Many parents and students appreciate that we are keeping their children engaged educationally during this crisis without losing on their school time.”
The distribution of the assorted food items and educational materials was witnessed by J. Maxime Bleetahn, Director of Communications at the Ministry of Education.
Bleetahn commended the donors for their timely and generous support toward the students.
He said without food it would be very hard to carry out the Home Learning during the health crisis.
“We welcome the initiative very highly and we hope this will be used for their intended purpose,” he said.
Mrs. Yawa Wesso, chairlady of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) spoke of how pleased parents are about the initiative and appeal to the donor to continue the assistance.
“FFIA is a reliable and trust worthy; it is doing a great job as there is no other school in the community opened now and giving food items and sanitary supplies,” she stated.
A student of the school, Korto David, extended thanks to Comenius and said the assistance was beyond their imaginations as it brought joy and smiles to them.
“We remain grateful to the donor, particular in these challenging times,” David said.
Lucia Bimba, head of FFIA, thanked Comenius and partners for the timely help and said there was no better time than this.
