Serene Health is a non-for-profit organization, which was established in 2013 to give free medical assistance to people in hard-to-reach communities in the country.
The organization’s focus is to reach underprivileged or rural communities which have little or no access to health care services.
Giving a brief description of the outreach, the officer in charge of the organization, Piero N’dorbor stated that his organization works closely with the Ministry of Health specifically the Montserrado County Health Team in identifying areas outline in their mission statement.
“We identify those areas based on the need. We do our own community assessment and based on the need, we mobilize our volunteers and take our team there.”
N’dorbor further stated that a mass clinic activity is carried out by the team in every medical outreach including, consultation, laboratory testing, antenatal care and immunization of vaccination services as well.
“People that are in hard to reach areas with limited access to medical care normally don’t carry their children for vaccination and that is an important part in fighting enfant or neonatal mortality.”
According to him, the organization’s one-day medical outreach is done after every two months and this year’s focus is Todee District, Montserrado County.
“We normally rotate. So you will find us in different communities or sections of Todee,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the community and appreciating the organization for its gesture, the principal of the Koon Town Public School, Peterson Singbeh, thanked Serene Health for going beyond its comfort zone just to cater for the health needs of Todee District.
“Really we want to appreciate the team for coming. It’s a privilege for us to have them here. There are other communities which want to have this opportunity that we have now but they don’t.”
Over 250 persons, including women and children, were given medical assistance in Koon Town.
The next Outreach is expected to take place in July in another community or section of Todee District, Montserrado County.
