The donation included personal protective equipment (PPE), surgical gloves, syringes, hand sanitizers, intravenous fluids, and basic diagnostic tools. The supplies are expected to ease pressure on the hospital as it continues to deal with high patient numbers and limited resources.
Receiving the items on behalf of JFK, Mr. Augustine Kou lauded the Garsnii family for their timely intervention.
“This donation comes at a time when our facility is grappling with increasing patient intake and limited resources,” Coon said. “These supplies will significantly enhance our capacity to deliver timely and effective medical care. We deeply appreciate Mr. and Mrs. Garsnii for their patriotic and compassionate gesture.”
The Garsnii family, originally from Bong County, has been involved in supporting healthcare efforts in Bong, Nimba, and Lofa counties. Speaking at the handover, Mrs. Rupee Garsnii said the donation was motivated by a desire to give back to the country and support the health system.
“We believe access to basic healthcare is a fundamental right,” Mrs. Garsnii said. “Our contribution is a small step toward empowering frontline health workers and helping to improve public health services. We hope it encourages others to do the same.”
Mrs. Garsnii added, “Healthcare workers are heroes. They continue to serve under extremely difficult conditions, and we felt it was important to support and uplift them in any way we can.”
Liberia’s health sector remains under strain due to limited infrastructure, supply shortages, and the ongoing effects of past health emergencies, including Ebola and COVID-19. Hospital officials and guests at the event welcomed the donation, describing it as a morale boost for staff and a reminder of the importance of civic engagement.
