SHEFFLIN TOWNSHIP, Margibi – The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) is set to move into a newly constructed headquarters in the coming months as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s telecom sector. The multi-million-dollar facility, being built by BMC Construction Group, is located in Shefflin Township, opposite the EBK Military Barracks in Lower Margibi County.

During a recent media tour of the site, Acting LTA Chairperson Abdullah L. Kamara emphasized the project’s significance, describing it as a landmark investment in infrastructure.
“We want to have an impressive representation. We also want to leave a mark,” Kamara told reporters. “Our country needs to develop. We can’t have resources and only spend them on daily operational activities without investing in infrastructure and physical assets. This is a manifestation of our intent and how we want to structure and grow this sector.”
According to Kamara, the project started nine months ago with only construction materials and a fenced perimeter. However, he noted that major progress has been made, with the building now taking shape as a modern telecommunications hub.
“Ten months later, this is the building we have; this is a real building. When you come here, you will know you are in a tech environment,” he said.
The original cost of the project was estimated at $4.6 million, but Kamara revealed that additional features and an extra floor have been added, which will slightly increase the final price.
The new headquarters is expected to be completed by June or July of this year. Once operational, it will serve as the central hub for the LTA, which regulates Liberia’s telecommunications sector.
The LTA, established in 2007, oversees the country’s telecommunications industry, ensuring compliance, fair competition, and improved service delivery. The construction of a permanent headquarters marks a great milestone for the agency, which has operated from rented offices for years.
The move aligns with the government’s broader push to enhance regulatory frameworks and boost Liberia’s digital transformation. Kamara also highlighted that the initiative is part of the LTA’s commitment to making the sector more “vibrant, productive, and efficient” under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai.
As Liberia pushes for greater digital connectivity, the completion of the LTA’s headquarters is expected to reinforce the country’s commitment to telecommunications development, positioning it for future growth.
