Monrovia – The Government of Liberia has officially acquired ownership of a one-storey building located in the Old Road Community, Montserrado County, previously used by the Liberia Geological Survey (LGS). The property deed was formally handed over to the government through the General Services Agency (GSA) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The ceremony marked the completion of the government’s payment for the property, finalized with the issuance of a check by the Ministry of Mines and Energy to cover the balance owed to the property owner.
In brief remarks at the handover event, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Eudora Blay-Pritchard, disclosed that the office building, through budgetary support, will undergo refurbishment and be transformed into a modern laboratory. This facility will support scientific data analysis and enhance the operational capacity of the Ministry’s technical staff.
Deputy Minister Blay-Pritchard extended appreciation to the property owner and the GSA for their collaboration with the Ministry over the years, transitioning the government’s use of the building from a rental agreement to full ownership.
The building has long served as the offices of the Liberia Geological Survey. Its Director, Anthony Kullie, hailed the milestone as a significant achievement under the leadership of Mines and Energy Minister Wilmot Paye. He welcomed the move as a major boost to the Survey’s institutional stability and operational independence.
Director Kullie also expressed optimism about the announcement by Deputy Minister Blay-Pritchard that the current administration plans to construct a new LGS office complex at the Ministry’s central Monrovia headquarters.
Present at the official turnover were the property owner, John T. Richardson; Assistant Minister for Administration, Cooper Paasewe; Director for Real Estate at the GSA, Moses S. Gaygay; and several staff members of the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
