
Ganta—BRAC-Liberia, a non-governmental organization, has concluded a day-long dialogue and advocacy session focused on preventing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), promoting social empowerment, financial inclusion, and market access.
The event, held in Ganta, was intended to foster collaboration between government ministries and BRAC-Liberia to improve policy implementation and service delivery for youth, adolescent girls, and young women.
Participants engaged in discussions on current strategies for SGBV prevention and identified gaps and opportunities for improvement.
The event included a panel discussion featuring experts who shared insights and best practices in the field.
Alexis Keni-Keni, Program Manager for BRAC-Liberia, emphasized the importance of empowering young women and adolescent girls, stating, “Participants have the ability to influence government decisions that will enhance their opportunities.”
The dialogue revealed challenges faced by young women, including high interest rates from commercial banks and inadequate transportation and storage facilities for agricultural goods.
Also speaking at the event, Government representative, Julius Yenwon Saye Keh-nel expressed support for BRAC’s initiatives, pledging the government’s commitment to empowering women through loans and capacity-building programs.
For his part, Silayi Otyeno, Senior Manager for Advocacy at BRAC International, noted the organization’s commitment to addressing SGBV and promoting financial inclusion.
She called for greater collaboration between government and civil society organizations to create effective policies and resources for vulnerable populations.
The dialogue aimed to generate actionable recommendations to enhance advocacy efforts for SGBV prevention and empower women and girls across Liberia.
