Monrovia – The team pushing Rep. Worlea –Saywah Dunah (Unity Party, Nimba) for the leadership of the former ruling Unity Party has moved to quell rumors questioning his loyalty.
Rep. Dunah is one of four partisans looking to fill the void left since the party parted ways with its former chairman, Wilmot Paye.
In a statement at the weekend on behalf of the contender, Nathan Y. Bellepea said the entire career of Mr. Dunah has established him as an independent mind and a Unity Party loyalist amongst colleagues of the 52nd and 53rd Legislatures and that neither family, nor friendship, or acquaintanceship has ever affected his commitment to the Unity Party. “The open simple fact is that both Senator Albert Chie and former Representative Bill Twehway were colleagues in the 53rd Legislature where he headed the critical Judiciary Committee and a Joint Parliamentary Delegation. In these capacities as a ranking leader, he cordially worked with colleagues across party lines.”
Team Dunah explained that the Unity Party (UP) is a political party in Liberia that started in 1984 by Edward B. Kesselly, also its first standard bearer. “Officially founded at Buchanan in Grand Bassa County, the party was established on 27 July 1985. The Unity Party participated in the first elections after the 1980 coup, running against President Samuel Doe in October 1985. The party has remained active in Liberian politics since and was, until 2017, the ruling party was taking over by the CDC government. As such, we will want someone that understands the Liberia politics very well to take over the party for proper management to regain our population and respect.”
The candidate’s team is informing UP partisans, said: “Our supporters, sympathizers and the general public that, the information alleging the existence of links with injurious to the Unity Party is nothing true but a dangerous smear war against a committed partisan, a proven political leader and winner for the Unity Party chairmanship, Honorable Worlea –Saywah Dunah. This act of sheer fabrication and peddling of untruths will never dictate to the outcome of the pending Mini-Convention as the Unity Party is tired with divisive politics of lies, fabrications and character assassinations which gravely cost the party to lost the 2017 elections.”
The statement continued: “The whole Liberia knows that Hon Dunah as Secretary-General of the New DEAL Movement, had friends yet he led the UP campaign in Nimba in 2005 which resulted in the defeat of the Congress for Democratic Change and ushered in the UP first term; he still has friends when he again ran on the UP ticket and helped to defeat the CDC again in 2011. And was involved with Legislative works across party lines when he worked hard and contributed immensely to the UP campaign in 2017 and continue to play an active role in the UP institutional building activities.”
“Our supporters, sympathizers and the general public that, the information alleging the existence of links with injurious to the Unity Party is nothing true but a dangerous smear war against a committed partisan, a proven political leader and winner for the Unity Party chairmanship, Honorable Worlea –Saywah Dunah. Statement from Rep. Dunah’s team
Mr. Dunah’s team said it is a universal fact that friendship are found across party lines thus to whip up such devious allegations against a statesman of Hon Dunah stature is reminiscent of the same divisive politics which damaged the party chances in 2017. “It is exactly such political foolery that miserably failed and led to so many pains in the party; and it must be noted that the rearing of its ugly head through the machinations of a contestant for the Chairmanship is a troubling development which may pitch the party back to conflict, especially where the sicarii media is employed as his weapon of warfare”.
However, the Dunah Team continues to campaign; he is the only candidate with experience of running a political outfit in opposition during the President Taylor terror regime and the right man to navigate the party in opposition. “We are headed to victory and this act by desperate actors who sees this as the only moment to leadership is also designed to undermine the Political Leader’s drive to unite and strengthen the party; we therefore urge our supporters, friends and partisans to resist this divisive ploy and work for unity. We are confident that our Mini-Convention will cement unity in the Unity Party.”
Rep. Dunah’s team said it hopes to see their dream comes true, very soon from now and a year. “We will like to see our party contributing to our country, our society, our community, our county, our district and the world at the highest lever we ever thought of in life. And this can only happen when We all help to campaign independently for Honorable Worlea-Saywah Dunah, indeed we are confident that he is capable of meeting our agenda and even exceeding our expectations.”
