MONROVIA – Despite fears of uncertainty of what June 7 protest may turn out to be, the Ministry of Education has issued a directive insisting that all schools remain open for instructional activities on the day of the protest.
The Education Ministry, in a press release, stated that the mass demonstration organized by the Council of Patriots, should in “no way hinder the academic activity of the Liberian child”.
According to the press release, the Minister of Education, Prof. Ansu Sonii, has urged all school administrators and proprietors to comply with all regulations set forth including adherence to timeline of the academic calendar which indicates that the academic period for 2019/2019 runs from September 3, 2018 to July 19, 2019.
“Disturbing news reaching the Ministry of Education alludes that some schools are planning to close on an early date for the academic year, inconsistent to the National Academic Calendar; the Ministry is calling on those to adhere to the official closing date. A school must ensure that the prescribed curriculum is completed,” the Ministry noted.
