MONROVIA – Just days after successfully completing and awarding prizes to winners in its Orange Talents competition, the management of Orange Liberia yesterday announced a new competition for Liberian journalists. The competition was announced on Tuesday afternoon at the company’s headquarters on Capital Bypass during a press conference with the Chief Sales Officer, Mr. Isaac Muthama.
Mr. Muthama explained that the competition was a part of Orange Liberia’s efforts to support Liberian writers and journalist. He said that journalists participating in the competition would need to write and publish six articles in a local daily for a chance to win one of three prizes. “Writers will be expected to write and publish six articles about 2019 Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019) and skillfully intertwine information about Orange in each of these articles. Once the articles are published in newspapers, a panel of judges will review them to determine the winner,” said Mr. Muthama. The third place winner will be awarded US$200, the second place winner will receive $300 and the grand prize winner will walk away with US$500. Writers can commence writing and publishing stories from June 17 till July 27.
Orange Group has been a major sponsor of the AFCON competition for 15 years and will witness eleven countries where Orange operates participating to the competition. Its subsidiary Orange Liberia is sponsoring Lonestar National team and supported the team through the AFCON 2019 qualification process. Although the national team did not qualify to the competition, Orange Liberia is offering an all-expense trip for 10 Liberians to travel to Cairo, Egypt to watch one of the semifinals live. The winners won the trip because they participated in the company’s “predict and win” promotional game earlier this year during the National County Sports Meet, also sponsored by Orange. They are expected to depart Liberia on July 13th for the trip and come back on the 15th. Outside of AFCON, the company has also remained the largest sponsor of football in Liberia and is investing hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the National team, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) the National League, The County Meet, and the Monrovia Football Academy.
During the press conference, Mr. Muthama also announced that in addition to the competition, Orange Liberia was launching a new data package called the “Football Data Pack” which will provide subscribers 1 GB of data for $1 which will be valid for 3 days. In addition there will be a predict and win component linked to the package and subscribers who predict AFCON daily winners will win an extra 1 GB for 1 day. Mr. Muthama said: “We are sure that customers will easily predict most of results correctly, so that’s basically 2 GB valid 4 days for only $1, plus the thrill of the game.” He also said that the customer with the highest predictions would win a brand new 4G smartphone. To activate the Football Data Pack, customers have to dial the code *101# on their phone.
Mr. Muthama concluded by describing all activities that will take place at Orange 13th shop, at Orange selected video partners and in the streets with Orange Music Truck during the AFCON competition: We know Liberians love football and we want to offer them the maximum of chances to enjoy this competition and win several goodies.
