The proposal, titled “An Act to Establish the River Gee County Community College,” has been submitted to the 55th National Legislature and referred to the House’s joint committees on Education, Judiciary, and Ways, Means, and Finance for review. The committees are expected to report back within two weeks.
Rep. Pour emphasized that the creation of a community college in River Gee would provide valuable academic opportunities for local youth and play a key role in the county’s economic and social growth.
“This is about bringing education closer to home,” he said. “A community college would not only offer degree programs tailored to the needs of our people but also reduce the need for students to migrate elsewhere for higher education.”
The proposed college is expected to focus on human resource development, job creation, and innovation within the region. Rep. Pour believes it would contribute to the county’s long-term progress.
Once the committees present their findings, the proposal will be forwarded to the Senate for approval. If the bill is passed, River Gee will join other counties in Liberia that have established similar institutions to promote educational decentralization and regional empowerment.
“The establishment of this community college has the potential to transform the educational landscape of River Gee,” Rep. Pour stated, stressing its significance for the county’s development and the future of its youth.
