Monrovia –The University of Liberia adjunct Faculties Association calls for the dismissal of the University’s Financial and Human Resource Teams for their deliberate abuse of labor law and their ineptitude to carry out their duties.
The interim leadership of the adjunct faculties expresses dissatisfaction over the delay payment of adjunct faculties 2024 and 2025 arrears, leaving them without pay since last academic semester.
According to a release, the interim leadership, despite intervention by the president of the republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai since January 2025, that all adjunct faculties arrears be paid before the new academic year, nothing has been done to that effect. Moreover, the new president of the university Dr. Layli Maparyan, prior to her last trip to the US, requested the financial and human resource departments to work with the Ministry of Finance to ensure payment of adjunct faculties arrears but up to date the two departments remained stiff-necked to the issue.
The Adjunct Faculties describe the continual refusal by the Financial and Human Resource departments as a complete disregard to the office of the President of Liberia Joseph Nyuma Boakai and that of Dr. Maparyan. The interim leadership also describes the action by the Financial and HR departments as intentional violation of chapter 16 of the labor rights for contractors in Liberia.
However, the Leadership stresses the need for an urgent overhaul of the 2 departments if the UL must move forward.
Meanwhile, the adjunct faculties Association calls on all its members to disengage from all academic activities including Mid-term and final exams until their arrears are settled.
Hence, the Association says it remains committed and supportive to the vision of its new president Dr. Layli Maparyan as she envisages to take the university to an advanced level and also to the fight against labor abusers at the University of Liberia.
The release was issued under the signatures of Wilhelmina G. Stevens, Chair, James Massaboi, Vice chair and Antheloos M. Gruzean, Secretary.
