Minister Bangalu emphasized that Campos, who once coached Liberia’s national team, considers Liberia his home and visited with his wife rather than to seek a position with the Lone Star.
The clarification follows recent statements by former President George Weah, who disclosed that Campos had expressed interest in coaching Liberia’s national team. Campos, who previously coached Liberia in the 1980s, reached out to Weah, expressing his desire to return and contribute to the team’s development.
However, Weah made it clear that although he no longer holds a government position, he is willing to help connect Campos with the relevant authorities.
Campos’s willingness to coach Liberia’s national team could create an opportunity for the Lone Star, though it remains uncertain whether the Liberia Football Association or the Ministry of Youth and Sports will pursue this interest further.
Minister Bangalu reiterated that Campos’s visit was not for coaching purposes, but rather a personal trip arranged by Weah.
Despite Campos’s interest, a permanent coach for Liberia’s national team has yet to be appointed since Mario Marinica’s resignation.
