Columbia, Maryland – Emmanuel Nuku Reeves, Jr. alias “ER” was a very wonderful young man. “Very quiet, didn’t say much. You had to pull teeth to get a word or two out of him, very respectful. ER had a wonderful life,” recalls the Rev. Father Richelieu Reeves, delivering a powerful Eulogy at the South Columbia Baptist Church last Friday, July 12.
Delivering words of comfort, the clergyman recalls that on Sunday, June 23rd, the Reeves family received a very shocking news that “ER” had passed. “It was very shocking because it was a news that we were unable to help. We couldn’t help the one that has always been there for us. We couldn’t help the one who’s had an open hand. His fist has never been closed,” in reference to Mr. Emmanuel Reeves, Sr., father of the deceased.
In the last year of his life, Father Reeves says “ER” did something important. “We got the news that ER said he wanted to get baptized. ER had made a private decision to that he was ready to identify with Jesus Christ, in his death, in his burial and his resurrection. ER took that small step.”
The clergyman lamented: “You know you can’t live in the Reeves family and don’t know anything about God. ER knew when to quit. The spirit of the Lord was pressing on him at that time. Here lies a wise man. Wisdom, Godly wisdom is not found in the text book, Godly wisdom is not found in the colleges and universities, Godly wisdom comes from the spirit of God – and here lies a wise man. He heard the words of God and wanted to get baptized.”
“ER” was the beloved son of Emmanuel Nuku Reeves, Sr. and Serena Bunchie Reeves. He was born on February 11, 1989 in Silver Spring, Maryland. ER was deeply cherished by his parents, siblings, and extended family. He shared a bond with his sister, Renee, and treasured the moments spent with his nieces, Chanae, Serena and Melina. “We thank God for blessing us with a son like ER – a son, every parent dream of,” Renee said, in a powerful tribute to her brother.
“ER” began his primary education at Capitol Christian Academy at the tender age of 5 years, until he completed 8th grade. He then matriculated to Bowie High School where he obtained his high school diploma in 2008. While in high school, ER participated in various scholastic and athletic activities. Endowed with an enterprising spirit like his parents, young ER started his career working in the family business at the age of 16 as an Accounts Clerk.
After graduating from high school, ER pursued and obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Accounting from Howard Community College in 2010, while assisting in the family business. He then transferred to Frostburg State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2012. ER acquired another feather in his cap when he obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Maryland in 2015. Upon completion of his studies, his father Emmanuel Nuku Reeves, Sr. expanded the scope of ER’s responsibility by promoting him to Finance Manager, a position he served until his untimely death.
The passing of ER has been a significant struggle, and leaves a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends and loved ones, that can only be filled by the wonderful memories.
“ER”, a faithful son, loving brother, caring nephew, doting uncle, dependable relative and friend, departed this life on June 23, 2024 in Columbia.
