Defendant Nipay’s latest victims are two Liberian women, identified as Gifty N. Williams and Janet Bright, who complained to police authorities about the defendant posting their nude photos and videos on social media.
The defendant was informed of his constitutional rights and subsequently charged with the crimes of disseminating obscene materials, criminal coercion, and disorderly conduct in violation of Chapter 18 Subchapter 18.7, Chapter 14 Subchapter 14.27, and Chapter 17 Subchapter 17.4.
Police spokeswoman Cecilia Clarke told a news conference on Monday, May 20, 2024, that the complaint was officially filed at the CSD Charge of Quarters while awaiting the arrival of defendant Nipay from Dubai.
Madam Clarke said the investigation received copies of the photos and videos for analysis while the defendant’s particulars, including his photographs, were shared for possible arrest.
On Saturday, May 11, 2024, the defendant arrived at the Robert International Airport and was arrested by officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency and turned over to the Liberia National Police.
Victim Gifty informed the investigation that she connected with the defendant through Facebook in 2016, and afterward, the friendship became serious, leading them to start video calling each other.
She asserted that, at one point, when he (Nipay) called her on video while she was naked in the bathroom, he unknowingly recorded her and kept the video.
According to victim Williams, she and the defendant stopped talking at the end of 2016 because she was getting married to someone else.
She further asserted that, in 2017, she got married and was no longer in communication with Defendant Nipay. Victim Williams lamented that, in 2021, she joined a chat room called “RASO TAKE ME AWAY” while she was in Dubai. In that chat room, a girl she had previously had a misunderstanding with posted her nude photo, which surprised her as she did not know how the girl got the photo.
Accordingly, when she came to Liberia, the defendant posted her entire nude video in the chat room, and she then realized that the recording of her nude video was done by the defendant.
The other victim, Janet Bright, a resident of America, informed the investigation that, sometime in 2022, she connected with Defendant Nipay T. Karpeh, popularly known as ‘Raso Daso,’ on a social media platform owned and hosted by a lady called Charlotte Roberts.
According to her, the platform was like a social church, of which she was one of the sponsors. At one point, Raso, who was also part of the platform, started to insult one of the financial and moral supporters of the church who was a close friend to her, cyber bullying the lady.
She said she made several attempts to advise him to stop, but he continued to post disparaging things about the lady and her family.
She asserted that, after he refused all the advice she gave him, he started posting her photos, including her nude ones, while hurling insults at her.
During the police investigation, Defendant Nipay admitted to the allegation of posting Victim Gifty N. Williams’s nude photos and videos.
According to him, he apologized to her (Victim Gifty), and she accepted his apology. He thought the issue was resolved, but to his surprise, he was informed that Victim Gifty N. Williams took the case to the police.
The investigation observed that Defendant Nipay T. Karpeh used social media to cyber bully and blackmail women as a means to generate funds for his survival.
