Gbarnga, Bong County – Bong County Senator Dr. Henrique Tokpa on Saturday donated medical equipment worth close to US$350, 000 to the Bong County Health Team.

The equipment, according to Tokpa, was given to him by friendly partners in the United States of America.
The equipment include diagnostic equipment, nurses safety equipment, hospital beds, gloves, personal protective equipment or PPEs, patient gowns, towels amongst others.
The donation of the materials, according to Dr. Tokpa, was a fulfillment of campaign promise he made to people of Bong County while contesting to be senator in 2017.
“I am interested in the health of the people of Bong County When I was contesting to be senator of Bong County I made a pledge that when I am elected my first priority would be the health needs of our people, “he said.
As senator, Dr. Tokpa said, he is committed to delivering total and qualitative health care with emphasis on vulnerable and elderly people in the county.
Dr. Tokpa acknowledged that lot still needs to be done, promising to give support when needed. “There is still a lot to be done and so as good citizen, I thought I should contribute by giving some assistance to hospitals and clinics around the county through the Bong County Health Team. Some of the items donated can be used during emergency cases,” he said.
Dr. Tokpa said he has accepted the challenge to lobby for budgetary increment to Phebe hospital and other health institutions in the county.
The Medical Director of Phebe Hospital, Dr. Jefferson Sibley, commended Senator Tokpa for his philanthropic gesture. He assured of proper use of the equipment. “What you have done is of high value and worthy of commendation. I want you to continue to support the Bong County Health Team and continue to attract more developments for the people of Bong County when you travel, he said.
He said the Phebe hospital is ripe of a referral hospital. He pleaded with Dr. Tokpa to use his political office to lobby for budget increment to the hospital.
Earlier, in an address, the chair of the “Friends of Tokpa” USA chapter, Florence Keilah, appreciated the intervention of Dr. Tokpa in the health sector, especially his committed in seeing Bong County benefitted from free medical equipment.
