Ganta, Nimba County – Representative Alexander Poure of District #1 in River Gee County has threatened to boycott the budget hearing, which was expected to begin Wednesday, July 31st at the Legislature.
According to him, his decision is based on the failure of the government to allow the county has access to 2017/2018 national budget.
He expressed disappointment that no River Gee lawmaker has received any funding from the government to enable them to undertake projects in their respective districts.
Rep. Poure explained that even their US$2,000 which is intended for scholarships, they are yet to receive it from the Executive.
He blamed the government for their failure not being able to fund projects in their district and county.
Rep. Poure further stated that due to government’s failure to provide the funding, it is causing them serious embarrassment, especially those of them who will be seeking re-election.
The River Gee District #1 lawmaker expressed disappointment that his district lacks basic human needs, including educational facility, roads, health facilities among others.
According to him, he is using his private funds to undertake several development projects in his district.
Meanwhile, Rep. Poure has disclosed that due to lacks of qualified teachers at the only public school in his district, school-going children are now leaving the school to go to the goldmines.
According to him, this is contributing to the mass failure that comes from the county in national exams.
