Tubmanburg, Bomi – Residents of Maher Town, located along the Tubmanburg to Monrovia highway, are raising concerns over strange sounds coming from the Maher River bridge.
Constructed in the 1970s, the bridge carries a somber history, having served as a site of violence during Liberia’s 14-year civil conflict.
Coleman Gray, the town chief of Maher Community, expressed his community’s fears during an interview with journalists. “Since last year, the bridge has been producing an unusual sound, which has instilled a sense of dread among us,” Gray stated.
He mentioned that the unsettling noises typically occur in the evening and at night, with the situation seemingly worsening each day. “This is the first time we have experienced such sounds from the Maher River bridge since its construction over sixty years ago,” he added.
Gray emphasized the urgency of the situation, calling on the Government of Liberia to take immediate action. He urged the Ministry of Public Works to conduct a thorough inspection of the bridge’s structure to address the community’s concerns.
Bomi County Senator Edwin Snowe has said he will visit the area today to ascertain the actual story from the locals.
