Ganta, Nimba County – Nimba County District #4 Representative was on Friday, February 21, reportedly chased out of his constituency by aggrieved citizens.
The aggrieved residents had early gathered in Blouhntuo town, which lies on the border with District #5, after been informed that Representative Gonpu Kargon was coming along with Representative Jeremiah Koung of District #1. Rep. Koung is reportedly considering to contest in the October Midterm Senatorial Election so he is trying to build a political base.
15 of the 30-seat Senate are going to be up for grasp by the incumbents and other contestants.
Prior to Rep. Kargon being allegedly chased out, the angry district’s residents, mostly young people, had taken to social media to express their disappointment. Most had regretted that they voted him. Some said since they elected him, he has turned his phone off and can no longer take their calls nor has he ever come back to the district.
The aggrieved citizens, most of whom are young, gathered in Blouhntuo Town.
The District #4 lawmaker was saved by his visiting colleague, whom he (Rep. Rep. Kargon) was escorting to his district in order to tell the people about his senatorial ambition.
Even though, Rep. Kargon spent the night in the district, the house he spent the night in had to be guarded by a community watch team for fear of being attacked by the aggrieved young men. He left the town and district very early.
When contacted, Rep. Kargon told this newspaper that he was not attacked by any of his citizens neither did he escape.
“I was not attacked by any of my citizens in Bluhntuo Town. It was one of friends who came to me and said why I had to change the place I had always slept. Journalist, no one attack me; it is politics that some people are playing,” Rep. Kargon added.
He, however, admitted that he had to leave the district very early, according to him because of other gatherings he had planned. But he had left the guest — Rep. Koung there to fend for himself.
He assured that since being elected no towns and villages in the district can truly say that they have not seen him nor are they not benefiting from his development initiatives, which he didn’t name.
