The Kornee Gold Mine, which is about one hour, thirty minutes’ walk from the nearest town Gbarney, has become a hustling ground for youths and underaged children, who go there to make quick money.
Diamond was en route to Gbarney, her home town, during the heavy storm when a tree fell on her and immediately killed her.
The young woman was fatally stuck under the tree when a group of three gold miners identified her and alerted family members about the incident.
The victim of the horrific incident was a high school dropout who had gone to the gold mine to generate money to return to school, when she met her untimely demise.
However, her body remained under the tree Tuesday, as authorities of Gbarney sought authorization from the Liberia National Police Bong Detachment to remove the corpse.
According to report, the tree, like other trees in the area, was prone to falling as a result of underground mining activities in the region.
A 15-man jury setup on Wednesday to remove and examine the body reported no foul play.
The jury’s report indicated that the victim’s neck and hands were broken, while she profoundly bled from her nose.
Meanwhile, the bereaved family through its spokesperson, James Sumo, accepted the jury’s verdict and collected the corpse for burial. He expressed regret over the passing of their daughter and said they will forever miss her.
