Finance Officer Silas Tokpa recently revealed that the county’s leadership is embroiled in a persistent internal conflict that is affecting the smooth functioning of its operations.
Tokpa acknowledged that efforts to resolve the issue and improve collaboration between county officials have been unsuccessful, leaving the situation unresolved despite attempts at mediation.
“We have an internal fight at the county local level. We’ve tried to resolve it, but it’s still there,” Tokpa stated, shedding light on the ongoing tensions within the administration.
The county finance officer attributed the internal struggles to disagreements over the system of checks and balances, a crucial element he believes is necessary for the effective management and operation of the county leadership. According to Tokpa, these disagreements have hindered the leadership’s ability to work together efficiently.
“The issue is due to the checks and balance system. We are still fighting, but we are trying to work with it,” he said.
Tokpa expressed hope that the situation might improve following a recent training session conducted by NAYMOTE for local government officials, aimed at enhancing their effectiveness and overall performance.
However, the internal conflict continues to simmer, raising concerns about accountability and governance within Bong County.
Public reactions to Tokpa’s statement have been mixed, with many expressing frustration over the divide in the leadership. Some residents have called for unity among county officials, urging them to put aside their differences for the betterment of Bong County and its people.
“There is a need for accountability and transparency. The ongoing divisions within the leadership are concerning, and it is time for all leaders to come together for the greater good of the county,” said one concerned citizen.
