Gbarnga, Bong County — Aggrieved Gbarnga marketers, who barricaded the Jor Bridge early Tuesday morning, in protest to the alleged refusal of their colleagues to relocate to the new market, have abandoned their strike action.

The marketers’ decision was prompted by the intervention of the Police Commander for Bong, Farsu Sheriff and some officials of the county who assured them the subsequent relocation of the other vendors to the new market grounds.
They set up road blocks in the middle of the bridge, insisting to remain at the location until their concerns are addressed. Their action caused significant disruption in the traffic as cars coming from Monrovia and Ganta were stuck at the protest scene until calm was restored.
They stated that some of the marketers who refused to relocate to the newly built Sirleaf Market have created site around the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment at their own volition.
The marketers claimed that the presence of their colleagues at the recently demolished Gbarnga Central Market is preventing customers from transacting with them.
They expressed disappointment in the Gbarnga City Corporation and the Marketing Association who they said are not making frantic efforts to remove those selling at old market.
For his part, the Commander of the Liberia National Police Bong Detachment, Col. Farsu Sheriff promised to enforce the evacuation process, ensuring those in non-compliance take transfer to the new market.
Col. Sheriff stated that he would relay the marketers’ concerns to the Bong Legislative Caucus for a possible dialogue.
